Very little character development went into this story. It's an hour+ excuse to have superheroes fight villains who are nearly exactly the same at them: Batman takes on Owlman, Wonder Woman takes on Super Woman, Superman goes takes on Ultraman. You get the point. The animation style is closer to the style used in the Batman and Superman animated series but a little less blocky and top-heavy.<br/><br/>As farDC antimated films go, this one is among the weaker ones. Nevermind the fact that film ends with Batman blowing up entire planet and murdering probably millions of people along with Owlman. Remember, this is the guy who doesn't kill.
This is one of the few of DC's animated movies that I have watched and I will say that it was a positive experience. The plot was alright and the story flowed nicely, meaning that the movie did not become boring at any point. The story certainly had something of a darker edge to it that more adult audiences should appreciate.<br/><br/>I do feel like I might have enjoyed the movie better did I not suffer from a lack of familiarity with DC's characters. I don't think I could quite appreciate the similarities/differences between the characters of the two Earths. Of course it isn't possible to give each character the time they would deserve and tell a good story at the same time. That is not to say I felt terribly confused by anything either, just that I think that had I known the characters better there would have been a certain layer of depth added to the story. Then again that same lack of familiarity with DC will of course make me overlook some possible inconsistencies that the plot might have.<br/><br/>All in all I would say that the movie is definitely worth watching, even if you don't happen to know too much about DC.

In Owlman's appearance in The Brave And The Bold cartoon, he was merely an evil version of Batman (and both were voiced by Diedrich Bader),were all the other counterparts to their respective personas.<br/><br/>In the comics, Owlman is Thomas Wayne Jr., the older brother of his universe's Bruce Wayne. In this universe, it is Bruce and his mother Martha who are killed (by a corrupt cop). Thomas Jr. blamed his father for their deaths and escaped the crime scene with Joe Chill, who, in the main universe, is the thug who killed Bruce Wayne's parents. He later grew up to be the masked criminal Owlman (implied to have used drugs to speed up his training), providing assistance against the Gotham Police to Boss Gordon (the criminal counterpart to Commissioner Gordon) and fighting against his father, who had become the Commissioner of the Gotham Police in his universe in order to stop his son.<br/><br/>Owlman, like Batman, is the brains behind his group, the Crime Syndicate. Cold and calculating, he even manages an affair with Superwoman (the alternate version of Mary Marvel) who is married to Ultraman (the alternate version of Superman).<br/><br/>It is also worthy to note that he is not the only alternate universe member who has a differing backstory and character with his own counterpart.
